Correction of Steal Syndrome from Hemoaccess with Pulse Oximetry Assistance
Department of Surgery, Staten Island University Hospital, Staten Island, New York There are many techniques described for the correction of steal syndrome. Most of these techniques use subjective criteria to evaluate the return of blood flow to the extremity. This article describes a simple technique to give an objective measurement of blood flow to the extremity. Pulse oximetry was used to help establish return of blood flow to the hand and give an objective endpoint for banding. Both patients had subjective and objective correction of the steal syndrome after surgery.
