Intraaortic Balloon Pump Entrapment: An Alternative Method of ManagementA Case Report
Department of Surgery, State University of New York at Buffalo, New York The intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) is an important component in the management and support of the failing heart. Despite the benefits of the IABP, major vascular complications have been documented to occur. Entrapment of an IABP is a rare, but potentially catastrophic, complication. The authors report a case of IABP entrapment, review the previous reports in the literature, and detail their method of extraction.
