Leiomyosarcomas of the inferior vena cava are rare tumors that have been reported with increased frequency. A case of a sixty-two-year-old woman pre senting with back pain and weight loss is discussed. Treatment with resection of the inferior vena cava below the renal vein has left the patient asymptomatic. The preoperative diagnosis was suspected from the computed tomographic scan of the abdomen. A review of the literature of leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava and its presentation is provided.
