State University of New York, Stony Brook, New York Extraanatomic bypass has been utilized increasingly in both elective and emergency situations over the last ten years. The three major indications are: (1) a poor-risk patient, (2) an alternative to direct primary or secondary recon struction, and (3) a need to bypass an infected area.
