Accelerated Atherosclerosis in a Tortuous Iliac Artery Following Femorofemoral Bypass

Unilateral iliac artery occlusive disease can be successfully treated with femorofemoral bypass. Although the results of this extraanatomic reconstruc tion have generally been excellent, a case is presented in which tortuosity of the donor iliac artery may have produced hemodynamic factors which caused accelerated atherosclerosis. Implications of this finding in selecting patients for femorofemoral bypass are discussed.
