Leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava is a rare tumor. Though gener ally not aggressive this malignancy will ultimately be fatal unless resected. Surgical resection is possible when the tumor is located in the middle or lower segment of the inferior vena cava. The symptomatology produced by the tumor is variable. The patient may present with only minimal pain or may develop a wide spectrum of findings. The lesion may present as a diagnostic problem.

The authors have recently seen a case of leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava in whom computerized axial tomography was helpful in identifying the location of the tumor.
