Pathogenesis of Coarctation of the Aorta

This report concerns the pathogenesis of aortic coarctation. Normal aortic arch development and perinatal circulation are described, and current interpretations of coarctation are examined. Finally, an explana tion of the cause of coarctation is proposed. Coarctation is not a primary disease, but rather the result of some pathologic state which reduces the amount of blood crossing the prenatal aortic valve.
